Every year, as the olive trees begin to bless us with their fruit, communities across Palestine gather to celebrate one of the most cherished traditions of our land—the olive harvest. At Saint Martha’s House, this season carries a special meaning, bringing joy, unity, and cultural pride to our beloved ladies.

A Day Filled with Laughter and Celebration

This week, the garden of Saint Martha’s House came alive as the ladies joyfully participated in picking olives from our trees. Surrounded by the golden autumn sun, they worked together with smiles, stories, and warm companionship.

The atmosphere was nothing short of magical:

  • Traditional Palestinian songs filled the air
  • Joyful ululations (zalghouta) echoed across the garden
  • Hands gathered olives with love and purpose

The scene beautifully reflected the deep-rooted Palestinian heritage—one that honors the land, celebrates community, and preserves traditions across generations.

Embracing Heritage and Togetherness

For the ladies of Saint Martha’s House, the olive harvest is not just an activity—it is a connection to their past, their family memories, and their cultural identity. Many of them have spent decades tending olive trees, preparing olive oil, and gathering with loved ones during this blessed season.

Recreating this experience within our home brought back cherished memories and created new ones filled with warmth and belonging.

A Heartfelt Moment of Compassion and Care

Activities like these strengthen the bonds among our community, support emotional well-being, and remind our elderly that they remain active, valued, and deeply rooted in the traditions of this land.

We are grateful to everyone who helped make this special day possible.
