Founder & President

A visionary community leader with a long history of social engagement, she established Ahdaf Bethlehem with the mission of supporting vulnerable families, empowering elderly women, and strengthening resilience across Bethlehem. Her work in charitable initiatives, grassroots organizing, and community outreach shaped Ahdaf into a trusted bridge between need and support.

Her leadership focuses on dignity-driven assistance—providing food support, education aid, essential supplies, elderly programs, and emergency relief—while building sustainable solutions for long-term impact. With strong relations locally and internationally, she continues to guide Ahdaf with compassion, integrity, and a commitment to meaningful change.

A proud Christian Palestinian born and raised in Bethlehem, she comes from a large and loving family and is today a devoted mother, grandmother, and active community member. Fluent in Arabic, English, French, and Spanish, she has a natural ability to connect with people from different cultures and backgrounds.

She serves as the Vice President of St. Martha’s House, bringing dedication, compassion, and leadership to an institution that has supported elderly women for more than 15 years. Her commitment extends beyond one organization—she volunteers with several associations across Bethlehem, offering her time, language skills, and care to uplift seniors, families, and vulnerable groups. Her life of service reflects her deep faith, resilience, and belief in supporting her community with dignity and love.

A skilled craftswoman and active member of the Orthodox community in Bethlehem, she founded PalGlass in 2004, creating handmade stained-glass ornaments inspired by the heritage of the Holy Land. She has been part of Ahdaf Bethlehem since its founding, contributing creativity, commitment, and community spirit.

Alongside her artistic work, she is a member of the Basat Al-Rahma Orthodox Women’s Association and the Palestinian Union of Industries, supporting initiatives that empower women, preserve craftsmanship, and strengthen local community development.

Lina Canavati Rahil

Lina Canavati Rahil

Secretary

The manager of the Social Services Department at Caritas Baby Hospital in Bethlehem, she brings more than 25 years of experience in healthcare and child protection. With strong expertise in trauma-informed care, she works closely with multidisciplinary medical teams to ensure holistic support for vulnerable children and their families.

She holds a master’s degree in Social Work from the Catholic University of Leuven (KUL) in Belgium, and a master’s degree in International Cooperation and Development from Bethlehem University in partnership with Pavia University in Italy.

Beyond her professional work, she is actively involved in community service, volunteering with charitable organizations and contributing to programs that support elderly women, families in need, and marginalized groups. Her commitment to dignity, compassion, and social responsibility guides her service both within and beyond the workplace.

A seasoned development and humanitarian professional with over 18 years of experience, she has worked extensively in education, emergency response, and community development. Her expertise in program management, capacity building, and child-centered approaches has supported vulnerable communities in complex environments.

With a strong belief in empowerment and equity, she remains dedicated to creating opportunities that allow individuals—especially children—to learn, grow, and thrive.

A teacher for over 50 years. She is a pillar of faith and service in her community, dedicating her life to religious teaching, social work, and community development. She has tirelessly worked to instill spiritual values, moral integrity, and social awareness among students, parents, and community members alike.
Her work also includes conducting religious and moral awareness sessions tailored for students and parents, emphasizing the importance of faith-centered living and community cohesion.
Throughout her career, Ms. Gloria and through her work continues to inspire others to serve with integrity, compassion, and a deep sense of community responsibility.

Father Issa Thaljieh

Father Issa Thaljieh

Board Member

The parish priest of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Nativity, he studied Tourism and Travel Management before pursuing theological studies in New York. Ordained in 2012 by the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem, he was the first priest ordained in the Nativity Church after 1995.

In addition to serving parishioners and welcoming pilgrims to the birthplace of Christ, he actively supports charitable initiatives across Bethlehem. His community involvement reflects his belief that faith is lived through service—supporting the elderly, assisting families in need, and guiding youth toward hope and responsibility.

Rita Dieck

An instructor at Bethlehem University since 1987, she brings extensive academic and professional expertise in medical technology sciences. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Biochemistry, a Master’s degree in Biochemistry from Paris VII, and a Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences from Al-Quds University.

Her research and laboratory experience, combined with her dedication to education, have made her a mentor to many young women entering scientific fields. She strongly advocates for confidence, self-belief, and recognizing one’s own potential.

Judit Mu’ammar Sayej

Board Member

The General Director of the Palestine Red Crescent Society – Bethlehem Branch, she holds a Ph.D. in Leadership and Educational Administration, a Master’s degree in Institutional Development and Human Resources, and a Bachelor’s in English Education.

Beyond her professional responsibilities, she remains deeply engaged in community programs and voluntary work throughout the Bethlehem Governorate. Her leadership is grounded in service, empowerment, and strengthening community resilience.

Who can attend St Martha’s House?

Elderly Christian women in Bethlehem, typically ages 70–95. Priority is given to widows and those living alone or with limited support.

When are you open and what does a day include?

Monday–Thursday. Each day includes door-to-door transport, a shared hot lunch, social and recreational activities, and basic wellness check-ups.

How can I support your work?

Give online via our partner Friends of the Holy Land (UK), become a monthly supporter, sponsor a day of care, or share our story with your parish/community.

Can I visit during my pilgrimage to Bethlehem?

Yes—visits are welcome by appointment. We schedule small groups and ask visitors to respect the privacy and dignity of the ladies.

Complete the contact form to arrange an appointment. Volunteers help with simple activities, companionship, and meal service. Opportunities are limited and scheduled to ensure a calm, safe environment.

Are donations tax-deductible and how are they used?

Donations are processed by Friends of the Holy Land (UK), who issue receipts. Gifts fund transport, meals, medical check-ups, activities, and daily operations. (For local deductibility, please consult your tax adviser.)
